Light & Sound Installation
A Light and Sound Installation showcased Sunday, December 21st at Shine in Harehills, in celebration of the Winter Solstice.
In collaboration with artist, Kevin Hickson, this was a culmination of work created with local school children, throughout December to to acknowledge and celebrate the winter solstice. Kevin and the children of Bankside Primary School, and Whitkirk Primary School, created giant willow sculptures that were to hang in the atrium of shine. These were showcased during a light and sound event, at sunset on the 21st December. Multi-media artist, Shari Baker created a series of light designs to illuminate the sculptures, enhancing the luminescent qualities of the micro-lifeforms as they floated in an unseen subterranean space. The exhibition ran throughout the months of December and January 2008/2009.
This pilot project was intended to explore potential creative partnerships involving businesses and communities within the Harehills area of the city, with a view to creating more installations and activities in the future.
