..............................................................................................................................
A Light and Sound Installation showcased Sunday, December 20th at Shine in Harehills in celebration of the Winter Solstice.

Artist, Kevin Hickson, worked with local school children, throughout December to create giant willow sculptures which were showcased in the Foyer. Multi-media artist, Shari Baker created a series of light designs to illuminate the sculptures, enhancing the luminescent qualities of these micro-lifeforms as they float in an unseen subterranean space at the preview event.

This pilot project was intended to explore potential creative partnerships involving businesses and communities within the Harehills area of the city, with a view to creating more installations and activities in the future.

Celebration of Light

Traditionally used for celebrations and festivals, many people believe it is good luck to release a wish lantern as it symbolises the release of ones worries and problems.

These were released as part of a joint sculpture and projection project exploring the natural rhythms of light and dark across a year. The light and sound event showcased from sunset on December 21st, 2008, at Shine in Leeds, Uk.
